Many people ask, "why should a child see a chiropractor?" The simple answer is, because of life! From birth, to crawling, to walking and running, children experience a multitude of bumps, falls and ‘minor’ injuries. In the community minor injuries are viewed as incidences that are not life threatening, ie. Uncontrolled bleeding, spinal/ brain injury or broken bones etc. But as the well known quote suggests; "so the twig is bent, the tree grows". This is simply because the human body is an incredible machine that is able to adapt to its environment and compensate for comfort. This is where a chiropractor comes into the picture as they look at 'minor' slightly different to other health practitioners. In saying that, chiropractors examine and look beyond the surface or the symptoms. Chiropractors locate and correct spinal dysfunctions (commonly referred to as subluxations). Subluxations are minor misalignments of vertebral joints that may cause nerve system interference and joint dysfunction, affecting our ability to express full health potential.
From a physiological perspective, the nerve system is the master controller of the entire human body. In all vertebrate animal, the spines main purpose is to protect the intricate peripheral nerves and the delicate spinal cord. The birth process can often involve intervention and musculoskeletal trauma, which if left uncorrected, may sometimes have detrimental effects on health and body function.

New babies for whichever reason often experience issues such as; colic, wind, sleep difficulty, aberrant neck movement/ torticollis, unexplained crying, breastfeeding trouble and digestive complaints. Young children are extremely resilient, yet often suffer from ear infections, recurrent colds, bed wetting, hyperactivity, behavioural problems, uncontrollable tantrums, poor posture and learning difficulties. Chiropractic care is not a miracle cure for all ailments, but is a gentle, effective, holistic and natural alternative that may help your children through their growing years, with a focus on prevention.
